Chyawanprash is a comprehensive herbal tonic with wonderful health benefits. It is believed that the formula of Chyawanprash was discovered by the sage Chyawan. He was the first to prepare this tonic, and used it to regain his own youth and longevity.

So basically Chyawanprash is an anti-aging supplement, which is purely herbal in nature. It has Amla as its main ingredient, which is a powerful antioxidant.

How much should you take it?

One to two table spoons along with a glass of milk (preferably warm milk), every morning before breakfast.

How can you know about the quality of your chyawanprash?

Smell – Sour and spicy taste of Cinnamon, Cardamom and Long pepper.
Taste – Spicy taste, more sourness and less of sweetness.
Water test – When a piece of Chyawanprash is put into water, it should sink immediately. The particles should not spread in water.
Consistency – Pulpy, semisolid paste. Neither too solid, nor too watery.

Does Chyavanprash intake cause weight gain?

Just one to two table spoon of Chyawanprash everyday can not be considered as cause for weight gain. 
It contains ghee but the amount of ghee taken per day (the amount of ghee in 1 to 2 table spoon of Chyawanprash) will be very minimal.

What to do if it causes slight burning sensation in stomach?

If milk is drunk after Chyawanprash intake, this problem will not occur.

Should you take it with hot milk or cold milk?

Warm milk is better than cold milk with chyawanprash, as it further quickens digestion, but not as a mandatory rule.

Should you take it with ghee?

It already contains ghee as an ingredient. So it is advisable not to take extra ghee along with it. Milk or water is a better vehicle agent for Chyawanprash rather than ghee.

Can Chyawanprash be given to kids?

Chyawanprash can be given to a child from 5 year old onwards. To be on the safer side, the dosage for children should be quarter to half spoon with a glass of milk.

Side effects of Chyawanprash

- Some people complain of a burning sensation in the stomach after consuming this herbal tonic. In such cases, it is advisable to drink warm milk after the consumption of chyawanprash.
- Some people may complain loose stools because of amla. 

- Because it contains sugar, diabetic patient should take it under the guidance of a doctor.
- Chyawanprash is proven to be safe and have minimal side effects for most people. Just remember that everybody is different and you should always consult with a doctor or healthcare professional before taking any supplement.
